What's New on the 2020 Jeep Cherokee?

There is no need for an introduction when it comes to the Jeep Cherokee. Everyone knows what it is, what it has been, and how long the road has been to get here.

From the rugged, bare-bones and go anywhere first Cherokee, some enthusiasts felt that over time the vehicle got softer and focused more on its SUV side rather than taking the off-road crown. However, for the 2020 model year, Jeep has made quite a few improvements to the beloved Jeep Cherokee for sale in Kansas City and Gladstone, MO that will once again put it on the map for customers who will not only take it to the mall but also on the trails.

Even though the 2020 Jeep Cherokee is not an all-new model but instead a yearly refresh, there are quite a number of upgrades that have been implemented to what is already an excellent platform.

1 - Improved Looks

The redesigned front fascia is a bit more aggressive and it will surely appeal to classic Jeep customers. Furthermore, two new color variants have been added - the Sangria and the Spitfire Orange - expanding the already large collection of exterior finishes available for the Cherokee.

2 - Improved U-Connect

Inside, everyone is by now familiar with Jeep's very own UConnect infotainment system. However, the array of features that are present in the system for the 2020 model is unprecedented, along with the excellent navigation and SOS Call systems. There are also new and exciting features like Apple CarPlay connectivity and remote vehicle start that can be operated directly from the owner's smartphone. Vehicle health reports and sending locations from the paired smartphone are also available.

The system is now also able to provide Wi-Fi connectivity inside the vehicle via an available LTE hotspot and, amazingly, there is now an available Jeep Skill for Amazon Alexa that translates to being able to start your Cherokee with the help of the virtual assistant, check your fuel level, and lots more, directly from your couch.

3 - New Safety Features

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee was not exactly short on safety-oriented features, but the 2020 model improves on the 2019 variant by adding three new driver assists - LaneSense Lane Departure Warning, Full Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, and Rain-Sensing Wipers.

The new LaneSense system not only provides visual and audible alerts to the driver if there is unintentionally drifting between lanes, but it also provides gentle steering input and returns the vehicle to its correct lane.

The Full Speed Collision Warning system provides alerts to the driver regarding potential collisions and it is able to apply the brakes, even coming to a complete stop if required to avoid a crash.

Rain-Sensing Wipers have been a feature awaited for by Jeep customers for a while on the Cherokee; now, on the 2020 model year, the feature is present and fully functional, able to detect from the smallest raindrop to the most massive of downpours and adjust wiper speed accordingly.

4 - New LED Lighting

While most manufacturers are offering LED lighting options for their vehicles in 2020, Jeep has taken this a step further with the Cherokee offering standard LED lighting for its new model year all around the vehicle. Taillights, headlights, and fog lamps are all LED, lighting up the road and making driving in low light conditions a breeze.

As a plus, the Daytime Running Lights have a beautiful light signature that makes the 2020 Cherokee recognizable from a distance. It is a modern style but has retained that classic Jeep look.

5 - More Power

A new engine is available for the range-topping versions, the 3.2-liter V6 Pentastar, which offers a lot of get up and go for a small SUV. With 271 horsepower at 6500 rpm, the new engine, coupled with Jeep's nine-speed automatic transmission, is able to provide the 2020 Cherokee's driver with spirited acceleration while maintaining decent fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

This new engine variant will come as good news to previous Cherokee customers that in the past have complained about the vehicle feeling a bit sluggish, even in top tier configurations. Why Should I Buy the 2020 Jeep Cherokee?

The above upgrades are probably the most important additions that Jeep has made to its 2020 Cherokee model. We are talking about a yearly refresh that is coming just one year after the model's midlife cycle refresh of 2019. All things considered, Jeep now has a mature product on its hands, a product that does well both in domestic and international markets and simply needed some minor tweaks here and there.

It has been six years since the fifth and current generation Cherokee first went up for sale, and the model has reached a level of refinement more than worthy of the Jeep name. It can feel at home both in the shopping mall parking lot and out on the trail tearing it up.

Even though at the time of its launch the model was dismissed by Jeep enthusiasts for being too soft and apparently straying away from the rugged, off-road, trail-worthy Jeep values, during its time on the market the current generation of Cherokee has proven, especially with its Trailhawk variants, to be more than worthy of wearing the legendary Jeep badge, and at the excellent 2020 Jeep Cherokee price it is a bargain.

The 2020 model year, with its tweaks and refinements to the already great recipe, comes to continue a very successful journey for the brand.
