The 2019 Ram 1500 was recently bestowed the coveted MotorTrend Truck of the Year award. The 2019 Ram 1500 offers a diverse range of options to suit many needs. This fifth-generation Ram 1500 is an evolutionary leap and offers the 21st-century truck buyer more than any other truck when it comes to capability, comfort, convenience, and value.
Features and Value
The base Tradesman model starts at $33,390. A step up from the Tradesman is the Big Horn model that starts at $40,090. The Big Horn comes with a two-tone interior, and also a smartphone-friendly 8.0-inch touchscreen.
When it comes to luxury, the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn at $52,685 and the Limited starting at $55,285 both blow the competition out of the water. Standard features on the Laramie Longhorn include Uconnect, 4C NAV with 8.4-Inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, a 12-inch touchscreen system, premium leather seats, and a genuine wood, leather, and metal-trimmed interior.
The 2019 Ram Laramie Longhorn comes with a V8 engine with 395 HP and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Limited series comes standard with a 12-inch touchscreen system, full leather front seats, a 19-speaker audio system, a four-corner air suspension system, and the RamBox cargo management system. The 2019 Ram Limited also comes with a V8 engine with 395 HP and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Safety
The 2019 Ram 1500 achieves top scores in all six crash tests by the IIHS. The 1500's chassis uses high strength steel and comes with an octagonal front frame rail extension that is created to protect driver and passengers from small overlap front crashes that often turn deadly.
Other features that assist with safety include forward and reverse collision warning systems, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitors, and a 360-degree camera system. Ram's main focus is to help drivers avoid getting into an accident in the first place.
Efficiency
The 2019 Ram 1500 has one of most fuel-efficient V8s in its class. The V-8 eTorque is rated 17/23/19 mpg city/highway/combined with rear-wheel drive or 17/22/19 with four-wheel drive. Non-eTorque Ram V-8s are rated 15/22/17 (rear-wheel drive) or 15/21/17 (four-wheel drive).
Convenience
One of the most important parts of a pickup is the bed and the Ram 1500 does not disappoint. The bed rails for the 2019 model have been raised 1.5 inches to increase cargo volume. The 1500 also comes with past innovations such as the bed extender and cargo divider that stashes against the cab when not in use. It also comes with a CHMSL-mounted camera that looks down into the bed so you can check your tie-down work while on the move.
Accessing the bed is another important part of a pickup and the Ram comes with the option of lowering the bed's step-up height to match that of the bumper. Ram also provides the option of a kick down rear step that stashes up and away behind the rear bumper.
For simple hitching and going, Ram also made a few improvements. For example, the 2019 Ram 1500 comes with a high-resolution rearview camera which makes it easy to hitch without a spotter.
Performance
The 2019 Ram 1500 also comes standard with a coil-spring rear suspension that offers a far better ride compared to leaf spring suspensions. Available for the 1500 is a four-corner air suspension system that comes with five ride heights and load leveling which gives the best of both worlds when it comes to ride and performance.
The maximum payload for the Ram 1500 is 2,320 pounds with a max towing capacity of 12,750 pounds, which beats the Chevrolet, GMC, Nissan, and Toyota trucks in its class.
The Ram's engine is just as impressive. The 1500 comes with the eTorque system as standard with the 3.6-liter V6 engine. eTorque is also available for a small premium when paired with the top-level 5.7-liter V8 engine that has 395 horsepower and 410 pounds per foot of torque. An eight-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive are standard. Options for four-wheel drive, limited slip or locking rear axles, and three final drive ratios are also available.
Design
The Ram 1500 retains the stylish functionality that Ram is known for. For 2019, Ram decided to get rid of some old design cues that have gone stale. There are no mini-Mack fenders, crosshair grilles, and the use of the Ram badge has been reduced. Ram chooses instead to offer consumers three head and taillamp choices and seven grille options.
The 2019 Ram 1500 comes with new interior updates providing the tools that each individual driver needs for family life and the job site. For example, the 1500 comes with a versatile center console that turns the available space into a mobile office with enough room for a bag, laptop, phone, and bottles. The center console can also be converted into a desk to support an easier working environment.
The 1500 also comes with three different Uconnect systems. Choices include an 8.4-inch or 12.0-inch touchscreen. The Crew Cabs come with a flat floor and flip-up seats. This allows customers to stow away valuables safely. The RamBins, under the rear floor mat, has been improved for the 2019 model. They have been made bigger. The Ram 2019 higher trim levels have a rear bench seat that can recline and comes with heating and cooling. Every trim in the Ram 2019 comes with a two-tone cabin giving a bit of style into the cabin.
